Cómo consiguió Singapur convertirse en la ciudad más verde y limpia de Asia

Recuerdo la primera vez que oí que era ilegal vender chicles en Singapur. Me chocó y me horrorizó porque en esos años masticaba mucho los chicles. Ahora, nunca mastico chicles y ya que, estoy harto de ver basura en las calles de San Francisco, la imagen de una ciudad limpia me apetece mucho más. Por una parte, me decepcionó leer que los singapurenses no mantuvieran limpia la ciudad ellos mismos y acabaran usar mano de obra extranjero de bajo costo para recoger la basura. Por otra parte, no me sorprendió descubrir que los singapurenses como los san franciscanos faltan las sensaciones de responsabilidad personal.

No debe ser necesario que usemos amenazas de multas u otros castigos para animar a las personas a recoger su propia basura. ¿Cómo podemos infundir estos valores básicos en nuestras poblaciones?
