Es impresionante que Forster describió “el futuro” en una manera tan similar que la era en la que nos encontramos en 2020- especialmente sin haber visto ni siquiera el teléfono! Si él hubiera nacido durante la época de la televisión, yo la entendería mejor su habilidad de escribir una historia como “la máquina se detiene,” pero como no existió durante su vida, es inquietante que la inventara con tanta precisión. El hecho que el primer vuelo “exitoso” había pasado en el mundo en el mismo año que escribió la historia es interesante. Entiendo el sentido que Forster pensaba que el vuelo significó el comienzo de una época maquinal.  También creo que, con cada invento grande, la gente tiene miedo de que la vida como la conocemos sea completamente diferente, y que este cambio haga que los humanos pierdan el camino. En este caso, aunque no he visto la obra, me imagino que, en el mundo que describe, sea obvio que los humanos estarían desconectados el uno del otro, aislados, y dependientes en sus tecnologías, como estamos hoy en día en realidad- para mi parece un efecto inevitable.
