Tuve la oportunidad visitar a Stonehenge en persona cuando tuve trece años. Cuando llegue al sitio, aprendí que los turistas solo pueden ver a Stonehenge desde una gran distancia. Todavía era una experiencia increíble, pero creo que hubiera sido mucho más impactante de cerca. Sin embargo, entiendo porque los turistas no pueden tocar ni caminar cerca de Stonehenge. Hay un riesgo grave de deterioro de las estructuras de todas aquellas personas que entran en contacto, y es muy importante que conservemos esta parte tan importante de la historia.

Por eso, cuando visité Machu Picchu hace cuatro años, me sorprendió mucho que todos pudieran caminar por el medio de las ruinas tocar lo que quisieran. Por supuesto, estoy muy agradecida que pude experimentarlo en este nivel. Era una de las experiencias más impactantes en mi vida. He leído que es posible que cierren partes de Machu Picchu en el futuro para conservarlo, en una manera similar a Stonehenge. Creo que es difícil encontrar el balance perfecto entre la conservación de los sitios históricos y la accesibilidad libre de estos sitios.
