Matthew:¿cómo y quién decide el nombre de los huracanes?

Cada tormenta grande tiene su propia personalidad poderosa y por eso es importante que les estén dados nombres individuales en vez de numeros o algo así. Pero, puede ser complicado.

Para mí, el huracán Matthew tuvo importancia personal porque tengo amigos que acaban de mudarse a San Augustine, Florida en Septiembre de este año. Ese pueblo antiguo está ubicado cerca al océano Atlántico y recibió mucho daño del huracán Matthew. Afortunadamente, nuestros amigos habían comprado una casa en una zona alta y fuera de la costa. Cuando hablé con ellos por teléfono, me dijeron que habían tenido poco daño a su casa y ellos estaban bien.

Otro razón que este huracán me preocupaba es que mi primo tiene un hijo, cuyo nombre, además es Matthew y que se mudó a Charleston South Carolina en Septiembre para asistir a la Universidad allí. Esa ciudad, recibió un golpe muy fuerte del huracán Matthew, pero la persona, Matthew evacuó y está bien. Cuando hablé con mi tía en Washington D.C., después de la tormenta y le pregunté, ¿cómo está Matthew?, ella se rió y me preguntó, ¿qué Matthew, el huracán o mi nieto?

Ahora, ustedes pueden entender porqué creo que puede ser complicado cuando las tormentas llevan nombres de personas.
