Tarea para la clase de Romina 9 de Mayo -Meredith

Fue muy interesante para mi aprender el significado y la historia de los nombres de diferentes países. Hay muchos que vienen de las palabras locales en un idioma nativo, pero siempre son cambiados por los “exploradores” quienes en realidad a menudo fueron invasores. Inspirada en este artículo, busque el nombre del pueblo donde nací en Wisconsin: Manitowoc. Viene del “manitou” que quiere decir gran espíritu, y “waak” que significa forest, pero la historia del nombramiento depende mucho de que recurso mires. En unos, se dice sólo que es un nombre aboriginal. Pero en otro hay una historia larga sobre los misioneros y sus tribulaciones en el área. También aprendí mucho en mi búsqueda sobre la lengua de la gente “Ojibwe” en el medio este- hay varios dialectos todavía hablados hoy en día, e incluso una escuela de inmersión que enseña todas las clases en ojibwe. Cuando leí la página en wikipedia sobre el idioma, pareció MUY complicado!!!
